Robin related poetry and song
Rockin' Robin
(J. Thomas)
He rocks in the treetops all day long,
Hoppin' and a-boppin' and a-singin' his song.
All the little birdies on J-Bird Street,
Love to hear the robin go tweet, tweet, tweet.
Rockin' robin (tweet, tweet, tweet);
Rockin' robin (tweet, tweedle-dee);
Go rockin' robin, we're really gonna rock tonight.
Every little swallow, every chickadee,
Every little bird in the tall oak tree,
The wise old owl, the big black crow,
Flappin' their wings singin' go bird, go.
Rockin' robin (tweet, tweet, tweet);
Rockin' robin (tweet, tweedle-dee);
Go rockin' robin, we're really gonna rock tonight.
The pretty little raven and the red-rock hen,
Talkin' how the robin was boppin' again,
He started goin' steady and "bless my soul,"
He out-bopped the buzzard and the oriole.
Rockin' robin (tweet, tweet, tweet);
Rockin' robin (tweet, tweedle-dee);
Go rockin' robin, we're really gonna rock tonight.
He rocks in the treetops all day long,
Hoppin' and a-boppin' and a-singin' his song.
All the little birdies on J-Bird Street,
Love to hear the robin go tweet, tweet, tweet.
Rockin' robin (tweet, tweet, tweet);
Rockin' robin (tweet, tweedle-dee);
Go rockin' robin, we're really gonna rock tonight.
Go rockin' robin, we're really gonna rock tonight.
A Robin
Ghost-grey the fall of night
Ice-bound the lane,
Lone in the dying light
Flits he again;
Lurking where the shadows steal,
Perched in his coat of blood,
Mans homestead at his heel,
Death-still the wood.
Odd restless child; its dark;
All winds are flown
But this one wizards hark!
Stone clapped on stone!
Changeling and solitary,
Secret and sharp and small,
Flits he from tree to tree,
Calling on all.
~Walter De la Mare
And of course we can't forget that great, wordy, six minute song from
the 70's.... Fly, Robin, Fly
By the Silver Convention
Fly, robin fly
Fly, robin fly
Fly, robin fly
Up, up to the sky
Fly, robin fly
Fly, robin fly
Fly, robin fly Up, up to the sky
[long instrumental]
Fly, robin fly
Fly, robin fly
Fly, robin fly
Up, up to the sky
Here's a link to a story about how robin got its "red
breast".
