Bobby Abreu
Abreu is a great pickup for the Yanks. The kid works the count and can hit. He's always on base and is an upgrade in right over Sheffield - who should have no problem at first since he's played both short and third in the major leagues. I'm still skeptical of him making it back this season.

He might be an upgrade in right as a fielder but not as a hitter. Sheffiled has the quickest hands in baseball and can handle any fastballer the Yanks might face. The Yankees have too many players that would make good DH's. Sheffield, Giambi, and Bernie (who should not have been resigned) to read the short list of DH potentials. With Sheffield's knee problems how can he be good at first? Basically, Sheffield can hit, but he would be a bigger liability to the Ynaks if they got rid of him because of his hands and batting expericne. Abreu hits well but strikes out 30% of the time vs. Sheffield's 15%
I too love Sheffield. He's one of the most dangerous hitters in the game. They do have too many DH's - but with Giambi's contract he isn't going anywhere and Sheffield at first may not be a gold glover but anything's an upgrade over Giami at first. We just might see Sheff at first next year.
