Comments: What a great page (and the webring is great too!) I have a young son, who I named George Bailey for the very reason that many doctors told us he would never be. But here he is! He was born close to Christmas, and I know I will never ask what would the world be like without him, because its simply unimaginable. Thanks for hosting a great site, god just hearing the wav file of "George Bailey, Ill love you till the day I die" makes me lose it because I whispered just those words to my George, the instant he was born.

It's nice to know there's always some place on the net I can go to get some cool graphics. Suggestion: I've noticed that I'm not the only gay site on the net that uses your graphics - it would be great if you did some gay graphics for "the rest of us." =) I'll visit often and see what you've done. Thanks, Robin!!

Comments: It's a Wonderful Life Rant This Christmas Eve I spent at home with a fire in my fireplace, and last minute Christmas cards spread out before me. It's A Wonderful Life was on the TV. I actually made a point watching it. In fact watching It's A Wonderful Life on Christmas eve is becoming something of a tradition for me. Unfortunately it's the wrong one. The proper tradition is for the movie to be on constantly from Thanksgiving until Christmas Day, always on some television in a neighbor's house or in a store window. You don't actually have to sit down and watch it because you couldn't get away from it if you tried. It's supposed to be like Christmas lights or shopping mall Santas: an ever-present sign of the season. Just knowing it was undoubtedly being shown on some television somewhere helped get me into the spirit of the season. But then a couple years ago NBC came along, bought the rights to It's A Wonderful Life, and took the movie out of the public domain. Ever since they have made a big deal out of showing it only once a year, on Christmas Eve. For me the worst part is how they hype the fact in commercials: "The only time you can see this movie this year!" Never mind the only reason it's the only time is because of NBC's greed. NBC's Grinch-like stunt represented the end my idealistic attitude towards Christmas. I could no longer deny the empty, mainstream, materialistic vision of Christmas thrust upon us all. NBC's exploitation of the movie is a perfect metaphor for what our mainstream culture has done to Christmas. I'm not a total cynic, however. We are all still free to make Christmas whatever we want in our own hearts, and I think most of us still do make Christmas a beautiful thing inside ourselves. It's increasingly important though that we realize the Christmas we carry inside us is not the same one our popular culture presents. It's increasingly important we protect the Christmas we carry inside us from our popular culture. Someday, when I've made my fortune, I'll buy back the rights to It's a Wonderful Life and return it to the public domain. Then I won't have to engage in my cynical Christmas Eve tradition anymore, knowing instead that the movie will always be on some television somewhere. Comments: Robin, I tuned into TV Food Network for the Cookie Exchange. It was reassuring to know there are many others out there that go through the horrors. Just yesterday I sent eight dozen cookies, (Double-dipped Hazelnut Crisps), with my husband to work. It was our first official cookie exchange. Three long days of baking, dipping, burning, soggy, waiting! I am exhausted. After watching you in action I have learned many new ideas and tricks. I am not only exhausted, but very excited for next year to roll around. You were wonderful! Thank you, Beth (NY)
