2 CONC resident of North Carolina at the time. The transaction wasin February 
2 CONC 1765 to William Parsons and also 50 acres on thesame day to Joshua Nelms 
2 CONC (adjoining land sold to EdwardMeglamre). According to an address by 
2 CONC Garnett Ryland at theunveiling of the monument to John at the Antioch 
2 CONC Church inSussex County, Va., on June 12, 1932, it stated that John wasthe 
2 CONC son of William Meglamre. He was of old Presbyterian stockand breeding, 
2 CONC but when at thirty-five he joined the BaptistChurch at Fishing Creek in 
2 CONC North Carolina. In 1767 he wasordained to be a minister and the following 
2 CONC year he becamepastor at the Kehukee Church in Halifax County, North 
2 CONC Carolina.In 1770 he crossed over into Virginia and preached at the 
2 CONC homesof Henry Bailey and Henry Andrews in Sussex County, and in 
2 CONC 1772became the pastor at the newly organized church on Racoon Swamp(later 
2 CONC called Antioch) in Sussex county. John also becamemoderator of the 
2 CONC Kehukee Baptist Association and held thatposition for twenty years, at 
2 CONC which time it included sixty onechurches with over five thousand members 
2 CONC in two states. It hadbecome so large that the association was divided and 
2 CONC John heldthe post of moderator of the Virginia division called 
2 CONC thePortsmouth Association. In 1794 his declining health compelledhim to 
2 CONC relinquish the pastorate. John died December 13, 1799.Tradition pictures 
2 CONC John as tall, blue-eyed and broadshouldered,with the lithe body of an 
2 CONC Indian. He loved singing and among thebooks and papers were manuscript 
2 CONC hymn and tune books in his ownhand. John married in St. Stephens Parish 
2 CONC in NorthumberlandCounty, Virginia on October 17, 1756 to Lettice "Lettie" 
2 CONC Nelms,daughter of Joshua and Sarah (Northen) Nelms, born November 14,1738 
2 CONC in Northumberland County, Virginia. They moved to Granvilleand Halifax 
2 CONC Counties, North Carolina, and on August 8, 1776purchased 285 acres of

1 NOTE In 1914, Francis had an extremely acrimonious divorce from his first 
2 CONC wife, Helen Clark. He ended up paying Helen alimony for the rest of his 
2 CONC life. (Unheard of today.) As we have the divorce records, it appears that 
2 CONC young Vida was the cause of their marriage break up. In Vida's last years 
2 CONC she loved to talk about "Frank". One story I remember her telling is 
2 CONC about how much it bothered her that Frank would smoke cigarettes while 
2 CONC eating dinner and he'd even lay his burning cigarette on the edge of his 
2 CONC plate while food was on it. This would drive Vida crazy and she'd nag him 
2 CONC not to do that. But forty years after he died --she said that "she would 
2 CONC give anything to see him do that again".

2 CONT Dennis Madden died Thursday Night.
2 CONT  
2 CONT Dennis Madden, an eccentric character, who for many years resided at 
2 CONC Wallen, Ind., and who was well known in Fort Wayne, and especially among 
2 CONC the veterans of the civil war, died Thursday night at his home of the 
2 CONC infirmities due to his advancing years.  Mr. Madden a long time ago took 
2 CONC upon himself the task of governing the little hamlet in which he lived 
2 CONC and he was known among his fellow citizens as the "Mayor of Wallen".  He 
2 CONC was at the time of his death about eighty two years of age.  At the 
2 CONC outbreak of the civil war he entered one of the Indiana regiments and 
2 CONC fought bravely throughout the struggle for the freedom of the negroes.  
2 CONC After the war was over he returned to his family at Wallen and resided 
2 CONC there since.  He acquired a small piece of property, consisting of a home 
2 CONC and several acres of ground and he gained a living from the produce 
2 CONC raised upon this little farm.  He suffered from injuries received while 
2 CONC fighting his country's battles and since the war drew a pension of $30 a 
2 CONC month.
2 CONT Mr. Madden was well known in Fort Wayne, where he visited many times and 
2 CONC when any of the soldier organizations would have a celebration he was 
2 CONC sure to be here and take part in the festivities.  He was an ardent 
2 CONC republican and a politician of power in his home town.  
2 CONT He leaves his aged wife, two sons who at present reside in California, 
2 CONC one son and two daughters at home.  Another son died in California 
2 CONC several years ago.  During the life of the late P.S. O'Rourke Mr. Madden 
2 CONC had a pass of the G.R.&I railroad, which was issued to him annually and 
2 CONC he became well known to the railroad men because of his frequent trips to 
2 CONC Fort Wayne.

2 CONT CIVIL_WAR: This regiment was recruited at Fort Wayne in the summer and 
2 CONT fall of 1864, and was mustered in at Indianapolis Nov. 3. 
2 CONT Leaving the state on the 18th, it proceeded to Nashville, 
2 CONT where it was assigned to post garrison work, being attached to 
2 CONT the 2nd brigade, 4th division 20th corps.

2 CONT CIVIL_WAR: Its division was left behind when the corps marched with 
2 CONT Sherman's army into Georgia, and with its brigade it was in 
2 CONT reserve at the battle of Nashville, occupying the left of the 
2 CONT inner line of defense from the Cumberland River to Fort 
2 CONT Negley.

2 CONT CIVIL_WAR: After the battle the regiment remained on duty at Nashville 
2 CONT until it was mustered out July 14, 1865.

2 CONT July 4th began early in Wallen, IN. last evening, while Edward, the 
2 CONC twelve year old son of Dennis Madden was about to explode a charge of 
2 CONC powder, it was prematurely ignited.  The boy was fearfully burned about 
2 CONC the head and face.  The family sent to this city for medicine this 
2 CONC morning.

2 CONT Right Arm Was Horribly Crushed
2 CONT Edward Madden, 22 years old, had his right arm so badly mangled in a 
2 CONC crusher at the tile mill of Worley and Heber at Wallen Thursday that it 
2 CONC will in all probability have to be amputated.
2 CONT The accident occurred in the morning shortly before noon.  While Madden 
2 CONC was trying to adjust the machine his coat sleeve was caught and the arm 
2 CONC was drawn into the machinery and crushed in a horrible manner.
2 CONT The young man was rescued by his fellow workmen and after a rough 
2 CONC dressing had been made he was brought to this city in a buggy and taken 
2 CONC to the office of Dr. C.E. Barnett, and later to the St. Joseph Hospital.  
2 CONC madden displayed wonderful nerve during the ride to this city, but 
2 CONC collapsed in the doctor's office from pain and loss of blood.

2 CONT Dennis Madden, Well known in Fort Wayne, died Thursday night at his home 
2 CONC in Wallen at the advanced age of 82 yr.  Death was due to infirmities of 
2 CONC age.  Mr. Madden located in Allen Co. many years ago, served with bravery 
2 CONC as a soldier during the civil war, and during recent years had gained a 
2 CONC livelihood by gardening.  He took an active interest in political 
2 CONC affairs, was somewhat eccentric in  madden and his friends many years ago 
2 CONC gave him the sobriquet of the "Mayor of Wallen".  Mr. Madden possessed 
2 CONC many fine qualities and he was highly regarded.  He was an active member 
2 CONC of the veteran soldier organizations.
2 CONT Surviving relatives include the wife and two daughters at home and two 
2 CONC sons who reside in California.

1 NOTE BIOGRAPHY: After the death of his father in 1791, Henry was placed under 
2 CONC the guardianship of his grandfather John Meglamre. After his 
2 CONC grandfather's death in 1799, Nathaniel Chambliss was appointed his 
2 CONC guardian.

2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: The will of John Clanton stated that his land was to be 
2 CONC equally divided between the three brothers, but it appears that in 1805, 
2 CONC Drury, with his mother and step father, Edward Whitehorn, had an 
2 CONC intention of not turning over the shares to Henry and Robert, now under 
2 CONC the Guardianship of Nathaniel Chambliss. On November 7, Chambliss entered 
2 CONC into the Sussex County Court on behalf of Henry and Robert to have the 
2 CONC court assist them in dividing this tract of land on Racoon Swamp. The 
2 CONC court ordered this to be done and Drury and his mother, along with 
2 CONC Whitehorn, consented to let it happen.

2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: The court assigned several people to divide it fairly, thus on 
2 CONC February 5, 1806, Henry acquired ninety-seven acres on the north side of 
2 CONC Racoon Swamp and 139 acres on the south side of the aforesaid swamp. In 
2 CONC 1807, Henry moved to Williamson County, Tennessee. He took part in the 
2 CONC War of 1812, and in January 1815 fought at the Battle of New Orleans. 
2 CONC From Williamson County, he moved to the neighboring county of Davidson. 
2 CONC On August 20, 1817, Henry Clanton of Davidson County sold 140 acres on 
2 CONC the waters of Hurricane Creek in Rutherford County, Tennessee, to John 
2 CONC Walpole for $500. About 1820, Henry moved to join his older brother, 
2 CONC Drury, in Montgomery County, Missouri. After 1840, Henry moved from 
2 CONC Montgomery County to Jasper County, Missouri. Henry wrote his will on 
2 CONC April 16, 1845, and it was probated in Jasper County in August 1845, he 
2 CONC having died on May 5th of that year. His will can be found in the 
2 CONC Callaway County Deeds, Vol. 1, PP. 371-73.

2 CONT BIOGRAPHY: Henry was the Grandfather of Ike and Billy Clanton of the 
2 CONC Gunfight at the OK Corral Fame.

2 CONT Melissa Sallee, granddaughter of Henry L. Clanton is first cousins with 
2 CONC the infamous Clanton boys, Ike and Billy Clanton of Tombstone Arizona. My 
2 CONC husband was quite upset when I informed him of his genetic link (1st 
2 CONC cousins, 4 generations removed) to the Clantons. My husband then 
2 CONC professed his life long allegiance to Doc and Wyatt and said "those dirty 
2 CONC Clantons got what they deserved!"  (lol)  He also said "Don't tell anyone 
2 CONC I am related to the Clantons!"  Double 'LOL', I am amused by the whole 
2 CONC thing.

1 NOTE Washington Parker was a river boat man. He owned a bar concession on

2 CONC records were destroyed, it is not possible to provide legal evidence as 
2 CONC to whether or not Henry Salle, is the Henry Salle who, apparently, was 
2 CONC the son of Isaac Salle, No. 16. The following facts indicate that he was.

2 CONT 1. The listing of Henry Salle as head of a family in 1793 is consistent 
2 CONC with the fact that his oldest child was born between 1790-1795 according 
2 CONC to the 1810 census.

2 CONT 2. Miss Ireland quotes her Aunt Jerdenia as saying: 
2 CONT The Henry Salle's were slave owners living on a 'large place'. Was it 
2 CONC just a home, or a plantation, or a farm? No one tells us but grandmother 
2 CONC speaks of many negroes and extensive land.

2 CONT 3. Apparently, Henry and Martha named three of their children after 
2 CONC members of Isaac's family:

2 CONC the daughter of Thomas Bondurant. However, there is a record of his

2 CONC Missouri as did Henry and Martha. This parallelism is quite convincing 
2 CONC evidence.

2 CONT 2. The fact that the Bondurant record gives Pollie as the name of the 
2 CONC daughter is counter-indicative because Pollie is usually a nickname for 
2 CONC Mary. In this instance, the oldest child is called Mollie, also a 
2 CONC nickname for Mary. Since Mollie, John, and James (siblings of Pollie) 
2 CONC named a child "Martha", it seems very probable that "Pollie's" real name 
2 CONC was Martha.

2 CONT 3. Again, several children of Henry and Martha were given Bondurant

2 CONC witnessed 14 deeds and was mentioned in 4 others. In addition on 22 June 
2 CONC 1762, he & 6 others posted a bond to Thomas Hall. This was probably in 
2 CONC connection with his becoming Deputy Sheriff. (Dr. SE Bradley, The Deeds

2 CONT William Branch was Depty Sheriff of Halifax Co in 1762 and in 1766 and 
2 CONC later was one of 2 representatives of Halifax Co in the Colonial Assembly 
2 CONC of NC. He is frequently mentioned in The Colonial Records of NC during 
2 CONC colonial times as a member of various legislative committees, for 
2 CONC presenting petitions, for sponsoring various legislation and for other 
2 CONC offical actions. After the Declaration of Independence (4 July 1776), on 
2 CONC 23 Dec 1778, William and John Branch were 2 of the 11 Justices of the 
2 CONC Peace appointed by the State Congress in Halifax Co. In this capacity, 
2 CONC they were among the officials responsible for the first actions of NC as 
2 CONC one of the newly created United States instead of an English Colony.

2 CONT Dorothy Dillard Hughes: e-mail 20 Mar 1998- Joel Dilliard's father, 
2 CONC Nicholas, lived in Halifax Co, NC. Halifax which was the capital of NC 
2 CONC during the Revolution.
2 CONT William Branch, father of Joel's wife, Martha, was a Justice of the Peace 
2 CONC all during the Rev. and so was an important man. Halifax was then the 
2 CONC head of navigation on the Roanoke River, and so was an important town. It 
2 CONC is now a restored village, Historic Halifax, and is quite interesting, 
2 CONC especially to a descendant of someone who lived there. Halifax was the 
2 CONC recruiting center for Continental soldiers. In 1781 English cavalry under 
2 CONC Colonel Banastre Tarleton preceded Cornwallis on his way N from SC to 
2 CONC Yorktown and defeated the few militia left in Halifax after a smallpox 
2 CONC epidemic made the Continental Soldiers leave the town. When Cornwallis 
2 CONC arrived there, he hanged 2 of his men who had committed outrages against 
2 CONC some Halifax citizens. There is a picture of John Branch, son of William 
2 CONC Branch's brother, John, in the Visitor Center there.

2 CONT D.D. Hughes: letter 17 Sept 1997: The tradition was that some Branch 
2 CONC descendants were connected with Pocahontas, but William was not one of 
2 CONC the line...Our William Branch never had a middle name mentioned. In 
2 CONC colonial times it was illegal in Eng for a man to have a middle name and 
2 CONC held good in Am too. Middle names began to be used for some children born 
2 CONC during the middle 1700's. At least one woman was accepted as a member of 
2 CONC Colonial Dames of the XVII as a descendant of Christopher Branch down to 
2 CONC John Branch, the proved brother of our ancestor, William Branch. I've 
2 CONC read that William's brother John's son, John became a governor of NC. I 
2 CONC have not been convinced that William and John Branch belong to 
2 CONC Christopher's line, though it would be an excellent one to belong to. 
2 CONC There were Branches in Chowan County, NC who could have been their 
2 CONC forebears. I copied the docum. of Christopher's ancestors back to the 
2 CONC 1400's from, I think, the William and Mary College 1/4ly, but the gen. 
2 CONC from VA to NC makes me suspicious. The Branch husband (John JR) would 
2 CONC have been too young to marry, and the only proof of a marriage is that 
2 CONC that the bride is said to be Martha.. Lewis Henry. This line descends 
2 CONC from Christopher's oldest son, Thomas, not from the one which supposedly 
2 CONC has a connection with Pocahontas. If William Branch could be proved as 
2 CONC part of Christopher's line, I'd be very happy. We could join the 
2 CONC Jamestown Society (Christopher was a Burges and was in VA in 1620), 
2 CONC Colonial Dames of XVII, and even the Descendants of the Illegitimate Sons 
2 CONC and Daughters of the Kings of Britain, commonly called the "Royal 
2 CONC Bastards" the most difficult lineage society to get into because of its 
2 CONC stringent research standards. Every line must have unquestionable proof 
2 CONC from exist. rec of the time in which the anc. lived.

2 CONT 13 Oct 1754 William received a Granville Grant from the Right Honorable 
2 CONC John Earl Granville Viscount for 640 acres in Edgecombe Co. (from which 
2 CONC Halifax Co, was created that same year).
2 CONT 30 Oct 1754 William of Edgecombe Parish, was shown as a planter on the 
2 CONC Granville Grant for 640 acres that joined Jos, Jno Alston and Thomas 
2 CONC Kearney. Witnessed by John and Sherwood Haywood. It shows 3 shillings of 
2 CONC proclamation money was paid in Edgecombe and that the land began at a red 
2 CONC oak, etc. 640 acres yearly rent in sum 25 shillings, 7 pence, 1/2 penny 
2 CONC which is at a rate of 3 shillings sterling or 4 shillings proclamation 
2 CONC money for every 100 acres. Did William buy this land or rent it from 
2 CONC Granville?
2 CONT 25 Nov 1754 William didn't keep all of this land for very long. He sold 
2 CONC 1/3 of it (213 acres)to Jacob Stickland for three pounds of current money 
2 CONC of the Colony of Virginia. All the houses, orchards, gardens, woods and 
2 CONC water rights were included in this sale that were on this property. Did 
2 CONC William rebuild on his other property?
2 CONT 1 May 1755 The land that Jacob Strickland bought on 25 Nov 1754, was 
2 CONC registered in Edgecombe County May Court.
2 CONT Aug 1756 The Granville Grant was registered in the Edgecombe Parish Court 
2 CONC to William. This deed of sale was proven by oath by Jno. Haywood, 
2 CONC Esquire. William later sold some of this to his brother, John.

2 CONC been purchased from John Branch Sr and Jr. on N. side of Beech Swamp,

2 CONT 8 Mar 1760 William witnessed deed of John and Ann Branch of 56 acres 
2 CONC which had been part of the Granville Grant to Wm. Branch on 13 Oct 1754, 
2 CONC on Beaverdam Swamp. The sale was to Isasc Strickland for 10 pounds, 6 
2 CONC shillings.
2 CONT 22 June 1762 William Sr. and 6 other men posted a bond to Thomas Hall. 
2 CONC This was probably in connection with William becoming Deputy Sheriff of 
2 CONC Halifax Co. 1762 William Sr. was Deputy Sheriff of Halifax Co. in 1762

2 CONT July 1763 William Sr. and William Hargroves are shown as executors that 
2 CONC gave bond with George Bristow for will of Roger Taylor in July Court of 
2 CONC Halifax Co, NC.
2 CONT 16 Mar 1764 Friends William Branch and Benjamin H. were shown as 
2 CONC Executors for John Grice.
2 CONT Oct 1764 John Grice's will was presented in the Oct Court of Halifax Co, 
2 CONC NC with William and Benjamin H. as executors.
2 CONT 1766 William Sr. is still shown as Deputy Sheriff of Halifax Co.
2 CONT 1775 William Sr. gave his "beloved son", John Branch, 200 acres and a 
2 CONC water grist mill which had been purchased previously by William from 
2 CONC William Short and was adjacent to Conocanary Swamp and Joseph Lane.
2 CONT March 1776 A warrant was issued for the use of Wm. Branch's Waggon hire 
2 CONC to Captain Flemings Company - 18/9(not sure what this number means). 
2 CONC 1770's-1780's? William Branch was a Justice of the Peace all during the 
2 CONC Revolutionary War and was an important man. Halifax was then the head of 
2 CONC navigation on the Roanoke River and was an important place to live in, as 
2 CONC well. It was the recruiting center for the Continental soldiers. He was 
2 CONC also shown as a "High Sheriff in Halifax Co, NC.
2 CONT 23 Dec 1778 William and John Branch were two of the 11 Justices of the 
2 CONC Peace appointed by the State Congress in Halifax Co, NC. In this 
2 CONC capacity, they were among the officials responsible for the first actions 
2 CONC of NC as one of the newly created United States instead of an English 
2 CONC Colony. Some of the laws that he was to execute concerned Orphans, 
2 CONC Guardians and Highways.
2 CONT 1781 English calvary under Colonel Banastre Tarleton preceded Cornwallis 
2 CONC on his way North from SC to Yorktown. He defeated the few militia left in 
2 CONC Halifax after a smallpox epidemic made the Continental Soldiers leave the 
2 CONC town. When Cornwallis arrived there, he hanged 2 of his men who had 
2 CONC committed outrages against some Halifax citizens.
2 CONT 10 Aug 1784 Wm. Branch, Sr. (along with his son, Wm. Branch) witnessed a 
2 CONC deed from Brittain Gulledge to Henry Overstreet (he was married to Wm.'s 
2 CONC daughter, Jane) which joined Joel Dilliard's property. Maybe Joel 
2 CONC received this property from his father-in-law who also gave some land to 
2 CONC his daughter, Jane and her husband, Henry Overstreet.
2 CONT 12 Feb 1785 There was a sale of land bordering William Flewellen (married 
2 CONC to Wm's daughter, Ann) and William's property along with Hills Branch, 
2 CONC Law and Benjamin Langsdale. The sale was from B. Langsdale to Wm. 
2 CONC Flewellen in Halifax Co. William's son-in-law, Joel Dilliard witnessed 
2 CONC the deed.
2 CONT 21 Nov 1786 William Sr. gave his son, William Jr. 500 acres "for love and 
2 CONC affection" in Halifax Co, NC. Therefore, William Jr. was not mentioned in 
2 CONC his father's will as being given property because his father had already 
2 CONC given him this land before he died in 1793/94.
2 CONT 27 Dec 1786 William Sr., William Paradice and William Hill (he was 
2 CONC married to William Branch's daughter, Sarah) are appointed executors for 
2 CONC George Wallice.
2 CONT Feb 1787 George Wallice's will was presented in Court of Halifax Co, NC 
2 CONC with William Sr, William Paradice and William Hill as executors.
2 CONT 1790 Halifax County tax was paid on himself as 1 white poll and 16 
2 CONC slaves, which was the same number mentioned in his will 3 years later. 
2 CONC This inform- ation was taken from the 1790 census.
2 CONT 2 Dec 1791 William Sr. served as a Justice of the Peace until this date. 
2 CONC He petitioned the House of Representatives to relieve him of the duties 
2 CONC of the Justice of the Peace, saying that he was 72 years of age, had 
2 CONC served his country for 40 years and desired that someone else be 
2 CONC appointed.
2 CONT 2 Jan 1793 William Sr. bought ? acres which were part of the land Thomas 
2 CONC Scurlock, dec'd had owned and Egbert Haywood was executor. This was the 
2 CONC land that he sold to William Jr. in July, 1793.
2 CONT 20 July 1793 William Sr. sold William Jr. 396 acres for 460 pounds. Sr. 
2 CONC had purchased this land from James Scurlock (and had belonged to Thomas 
2 CONC Scurlock, dec'd). It was on both sides of the road from the town of 
2 CONC Halifax to Enfield and joined Carter, Bansworth, Moses, Matthews. The 
2 CONC deed was witnessed by James Tatume and Nicholas Branch and noted by 
2 CONC county clerk, L.(Lunsford) Long.
2 CONT 16 Sept 1793 William Jr. sold some of the land that he had purchased from 
2 CONC William, Sr. to George Scurlock (possibly the husband to William Jr's 
2 CONC sister, Mary). It was 100 acres for 164 pounds. This sale was recorded in 
2 CONC the Halifax Co. November Court, 1793. It was witnessed by William Hill 
2 CONC (William Jr.'s other sister's, Sarah, husband) and John Knight.
2 CONT bef 24 Oct 1793 William Branch's will was submitted this day to the 
2 CONC Halifax Co, NC Court. He lent his wife, Elizabeth, as long as she didn't 
2 CONC remarry, the use of his Plantation containing 100 acres, the negroes, 
2 CONC etc. Upon her death or remarriage, his oldest son, Nicholas was to be 
2 CONC given the Plantation, the residue of negroes and the rest of his land 
2 CONC which contained 800 acres. His other son, John and daughters, Elizabeth 
2 CONC Marshall, Mary Scurlock and Sarah Hill were left negroes. His daughter, 
2 CONC Ann Fleuellin, was left 15 shillings, etc. and his other daughter, Jane 
2 CONC Overstreet, was left Chintz fabric for a gown, etc. Finally his daughter, 
2 CONC Martha Dillard was left 15 pounds, etc. The witnesses to his will were 
2 CONC James Matthews, William Pullen. The Executor was friend (and his brother) 
2 CONC John Branch.
2 CONT Feb, 1794 William's will recorded in Feb. Court in Halifax Co, NC.
2 CONT There is a picture of John Branch, son of William Branch's brother, John,

2 CONT Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Madden died at 5 o'clock Tuesday evening at the home 
2 CONC of her son-in-law, Edward Swank, near the Catholic church near Sheldon.  
2 CONC Mrs. Madden was sixty seven years of age and is survived by a number of 
2 CONC children.  She had been a resident of Wallen until two years ago, at 
2 CONC which time she moved in to the home of her son-in-law to reside.  Funeral 
2 CONC services will be conducted from the home this morning at 9 o'clock and 
2 CONC the remains will be taken to the Hatfield cemetery, near Wallen for 
2 CONC interment.

2 CONT Donoghue or Donohoe or more suitably O’Donoghue is one of the most 
2 CONC important and most common surnames in Ireland. In early times there 
2 CONC existed several distinct septs the major ones being O’Donoghue of 
2 CONC Desmond, O’Donoghue of Uâi Mâaine (Hy Many) and O’Donoghue of Co. Cavan. 
2 CONC The original territory of the O’Donoghues was in west Cork but they were 
2 CONC driven by the MacCarthys and the O’Mahonys some time in the 13th century

2 CONC David Holt of Hanover. I cannot give you an answer as to who this David 
2 CONC Holt is related. Two pieces of information. There is a magazine that I 
2 CONC believe is titled "The Virginia Genealogist." In volumn 4, there is a 
2 CONC detailed article on the relatives of Randall Holt of Hog Island. Richard 
2 CONC Holt who died in 1693 did leave a will in Essex County. Two of his sons 
2 CONC by his first marriage were named Richard and David. There are several 
2 CONC people who are reasearching Richards line. Richard Holt (1693) had two 
2 CONC children by a second marriage to Margaret Plunkett. They had two children 
2 CONC named William and Plunkett Holt. These are the childrn that a David Holt 
2 CONC was appointed as guardian. William Holt's will was filed in Essex County, 
2 CONC Virginia in 1734. One other note, Richard Holt of Essex County, Virginia 
2 CONC was the son of Robert Holt of St. Mary's, Maryland. St. Mary's Robert 
2 CONC Holt has a son named David but no one knows what happened to him.
