Do you remember the 60's?

Hi Robin, I found your site looking for some old toys. Ebay gets old after a while. Anyway I wanted you and everyone else to know there is a guy by the name of Ron that is selling a CD that can be played in your puter or DVD player with over 900 old toy pics from the 60's & 70's. The CD is called Christmas Wishes. He had some up on Ebay, but I haven't seen them lately. He gave me a CD because I let him photograph my collection. My favorite toys growning up - GI Joe, Captain Action, Marx Army playsets, Hot Wheels and Viewmasters. Here is Ron's email for anyone interested:Jagielski1522@Comcast.net Take care, John

Great little site. Growing up in the 60's was probably a lot easier than the kids these days. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!! There was no email! We had to actually write somebody a letter... with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there! There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself! Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up! And talk of about hardship? You couldn't just download porn! You had to steal it from your brother or bribe some homeless dude to buy you a copy of "Hustler" at the 7-11! Those were your options! We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it! And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister! We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like "Space Invaders" and "asteroids" and the graphics sucked ass! Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! ... Just like LIFE! When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium seating! All the seats were the same height! If a tall guy or some old broad with a hat sat in front of you and you couldn't see, you were just screwed! Sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only like 15 channels and there was no on screen menu and no remote control! You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your ass and walk over to the TV to change the channel and there was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-bastards! And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up, we had to use the stove or go build a frigging fire...imagine that! If we wanted popcorn, we had to use that Stupid JiffyPop thing and shake it over the stove forever like an idiot. That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled.

I grew up in NY - some things I remember: Fizzies, Thumbalina doll, Yodels in the blue and silver foil, ton 'o gum, Bazooka gum that actually cost a penny, and the little comic inside featuring Bazooka Joe. The Dr. Brown's man used to deliver soda to our door. I had the biggest crush on Astroboy! I liked Tobor the Eigth Man, and Gigantor. 45's on my little record player. If you put on a 33, it stuck WAY out. My mom's record player had the stacker thing, where you could stack 3-4 records over the one that was playing. When it was done, the next record would plop down over the one that just played. My favorite show in 5th grade was DARK SHADOWS!! I loved Angelique and thought she was the most beuatiful lady I'd ever seen.

Your site is wonderful. I did'nt grow up in the 60s, but my parents did. I am so jealous, It makes me sick to think of the decade I grew up in. I get a sensitive feeling whenever anyone talks about the 60s or 70s, how much things have changed from then to now. I love hearing stories about the past decades, and you have done an awesome job in doing that. If only I could go back 1 day and experience it.. oh that would be awesome.

In regards to the Busy Buzz Buzz question: The toy was made out of red plastic and shaped like an electric drill. It had plastic yellow "wings" sticking out of it as well as "bee eyes". Its "nose" was where you inserted a removable pen element (think of a BIC pen guts) of different colors. There was an on/off switch on the handle which, when turned on, set the pen element spinning in an offset circle with a radius of about a quarter of an inch. You then used that to draw things as you normally would but with the pen spinning as it did, you ended up with very stylized squiggly pictures. That's all it did. I believe it was made by Ohio Art who also made the Etch A Sketch. It was likely a competitor to Spirograph but since it really didn't do much and still required you to draw what you wanted to, you lost interest fairly quickly since that's pretty much all it did.

Wonderful site! I am from the 60's era. I have been looking for information about a pair of shoes that we wore during the 60's. They were called "British Walker". These shoes were very popular back then. I'd like to find a pair. Maybe, some shoe company would like to revive that style. If anyone knows about that particular style of shoe, please e-mail me.Thank

Cool site! I'm doing "research" for a novel I'm writing - sometimes my memory remembers wrong LOL -- so I want to make sure I'm getting the toys, references, clothes, etc., in the right time -- don't want to have something in 1965 if it didn't come out until 1966! Horrors for me if I let that happen! So, thanks - I've been at the computer for an hour now scouring boring sites-this one is fun! km

Hey My name is Eli, and I am a 21 year old male, not that any of you care lol. But I am really interested in the 50's 60's and 70's and I would love to hear some stories from people about what it was like. The music, the cars, School, Weekends. What every day to day life was like. The becoming of credit cards, the interstate system being developed. It all interests me so if you could email me some of your stories, or post the short ones on here I would really appreciate it. If you wanna email them rather than post them here. Email me at fcsdmoel305@rescueteam.com Thanks a lot everyone!

I have been looking for three games from when I was young. The first is hey pa, there's a goat on the roof, everyone thinks i'm crazy because they've never heard of it and think i'm inagining it. The second is mystery date, the one from the 60's. And lastly, there was a game my brother had, it was a scarecrow and it was a target shooting game. When you hit the target with the dart all of the clothes fell off. Anyone know where I can locate any of these?

Hi there: I had a toy in about 1968 that was a series of plastic parts one could assemble into something that looked like a Chinese rice paddy worker!!!. The bodies were always two colors one side blue and the other yellow, or half orange and green or red and white. There were little pieces that you could stick in holes in the bodies for arms and legs and one hole in the top of the head for the hat. The cone shaped kind the workers wore. The weird thing was there were two holes on each side for arms and three holes in the bottom for legs. Maybe they were circus performers but they were definitely meant to look Chinese... this was back before PC so...There was a Mandarin looking guy on the box. I would appreciate if anyone has ever heard of this crazy sounding toy if you could let me know. Thanks p.s. I really enjoyed the memories shared here. Some stuff I had forgotten about really made me laugh.
